Ever experienced hurtling down of vehicle all of sudden? Come, Visit Kalo Dungar
Kalo Dungar or Black Hill is the highest point in Kutch, Gujarat, India. It is located at 97 km from District headquarters of Bhuj and 25 km from nearest town Khavda.
Many people have experienced a strange phenomenon when some visitors noticed that their vehicles were hurtling down the hill at speeds over 80 km/h even with the ignition switched off.
So if you visit Kalo Dungar in Kutch, one other aspect you can’t miss apart from the breathtaking spectacle of the hills is the uncanny speed at which the vehicle rolls down the slope on the return.
How to reach Kalo Dungar from Bhuj: It is around 95 km from Bhuj. The nearest town is Khavda. The buses generally go no further than Khavda. You can still hitchhike using local vehicles but may be difficult if you are not used to the scorching sun of western India. The best is of course if you have your own vehicle or otherwise, you can hire cabs from Bhuj.
Scientific reason behind uncanny speed:
Researchers say that there is nothing magical or magnetic beneath the slopes of Kutch’s Kala Dungar that pushes vehicles hurtling down at unusual speeds.
Experts from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur and Institute of Seismic Research (ISR), Gandhinagar have concluded that vehicles suddenly gain speed in the descent only because of the steep slope.
