IRCTC’s latest cancellation rules for e-tickets

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the exclusive e-ticketing partner of the Indian Railways, manages several things including the ticket booking, tatkal ticket reservation etc.

New Delhi: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the exclusive e-ticketing partner of the Indian Railways, manages several things including the ticket booking, tatkal ticket reservation etc. A person can cancel an e-ticket booked via the IRCTC website and is eligible to get a partial refund of the total ticket booking amount. The refund amount is subject to the different cancellation fees levied by the IRCTC for various classes.

IRCTC’s latest cancellation rules for e-tickets

According to IRCTC, e-tickets can be cancelled via IRCTC website till the preparation of chart of the train.

  • Passengers are not allowed to cancel the tickets at Indian Railway counters and other designated ticket booking offices.
  • Ticket cancellation can be confirmed online and the refund amount would be credited back to the source account used for booking.
  • People cancelling partial reservations should make sure to print a fresh e-reservation slip for the original tickets.
  • People who have booked their tickets from agents can ask the agents to cancel the ticket and for that agents are required to send a mail to etickets@irctc.co.
  • Agents are mandated to include the details of PNR number, transaction ID, train number, source station, destination station, date of journey, serial number, passenger name, age, sex, reasons for filing TDR.
  • IRCTC will file TDR and forward the claim to concerned Railways to process the refund and amount will be credited back to agents’ account which was used to book the tickets.
  • As per the prescribed guidelines the IRCTC, a passenger is not able to get a refund on cancellation of confirmed tatkal tickets. However, IRCTC allows partial cancellation of tatkal e-tickets.
  • For contingent cancellation and waitlisted tatkal ticket cancellations, charges will be deducted as per existing Railway rules, IRCTC said.
  • If the train is marked as “CANCELLED” in PRS due to breaches, floods, accidents etc, then the passenger is entitled to receive the full amount in case the ticket is cancelled within three days of the scheduled departure of the train.
