When Mom-Daughter Pilot Duo flew same plane together
A sweet photo of a mother and daughter pilot duo sitting in the cockpit of an airplane had gone viral a few weeks ago.
Dr. John R. Watret was flying from Los Angeles to Atlanta on March 16 when he learned that the flight‘s pilots were actually a mother-daughter team, Captain Wendy Rexon and her daughter, First Officer Kelly Rexon.
Watret, the chancellor of the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Worldwide Campus, stopped by the cockpit to snap a picture of the two women and then posted it on Twitter.
A mother and daughter taking over the cockpit together are a story worth sharing and celebrating. It’s really a blessing. Women are STRONG and can do amazing things. Nothing is impossible.
On a positive note, it’s a proud era for Indians–as our nation has the highest numbers of female commercial pilots in the world, leading by 12% in 2018. Despite our society’s oppressive customs, patriarchal notions, and gender bias, this progressive lead deserves applause! If you didn’t already know, Reshma Nilofer Naha just became the first and only female marine pilot in India. Last year, Avani Chaturvedi from Madhya Pradesh, Bhawana Kanth from Bihar, and Mohana Singh from Rajasthan were selected to undergo stage-II training for flying fighter jets in Kiran Intermediate Jet Trainers at Hakimpet Air Force station in Hyderabad. All the more reason to celebrate strong women breaking stereotypes if you ask us.
